The big and little annoyances in your marriage are actually opportunities to deepen your love for each other. Relationship experts and award-winning authors Les and Leslie Parrott believe that your personal quirks and differenceswhere you squeeze the toothpaste tube, how you handle money can actually help draw you together provided you handle them correctly.
Group Discussions
This study is DVD driven and broken up into six sessions. Each session included an ice breaker/group discussion and there were typically four to six discussion questions to ask your small group. It was pretty easy to prepare each week; however, we learned that some of the discussion questions were weak and needed to be modified or deleted. There were exercises that went with each session and reading that required a couple of hours each week. These certainly added to the experience for everyone that participated.
Positives
We learned that this study was enhanced by taking time for our group to get to know each other. So we tried to spend extra time getting to know one another through additional ice breakers and free discussion time.
Negatives
Our BIGGEST challenge - getting everyone to do the homework. The video at times got old. We actually skipped the video once or twice. The study required a lot of thinking on our toes or preparation to make the questions more appropriate and thought provoking for our specific group.
Rating
I give it three stars. I've seen much better studies. It at least started conversations related to marriage. It won't save your marriage, but it might help.
Helpful Hints
Leaders should prepare and be flexible to make sure everyone is engaged. This is important when you're talking about marriages in a group setting.
