What if you only had one month to live? What if you were told that it all came down to the next thirty days? Would your faith play a role in the decisions you made? Are there things you would do your best to finish or are there relationships you need to mend? These questions and more are all a part of this study called One Month To Live.
Group Discussions
This discussion guide breaks the study into 6 weeks. Each week contains a long list of questions that are broken into 4 parts; Love, Learn, Live, and Leave. If you do decide to give this study a shot I would encourage you to also read the companion book, One Month To Live, which has 30 daily devotionals. It is intended to be a church wide campaign that is similar to the Purpose Driven Life. Here is the promotional summary for the book to give you an idea of what they are going for:
What if you only had one month to live? How would you make each day meaningful? How would you relate to others differently? What would you do to make the rest of your life really matter?
With eye-opening insights and soul-inspiring truths, One Month to Live will challenge you to embrace the life God has entrusted to you and you alone, and to live it out moment by moment with wholehearted authenticity, honesty, and integrity.
Positives
The concept of the book is a great idea. It all starts with Jesus and how he knew when his time on earth was going to be cut short. When Jesus knew this there were some core principles he chose to live by and the book along with the study explores these principles with the question, "What would you do if you only had one month to live?"
The interviews on the small group DVD are also excellent and really do a good job of connecting people to the topic.
Negatives
The DVD and book at times can feel like an infomercial for the website and other promotional materials.
When using the study guide, small group DVD, and book together it can get very repetitive. The small group leader has to do some significant preparation in reworking questions to generate discussion and keeping the discussion fresh.
Rating
The concept of this study/campaign is fun, engaging, and great to think about. The promotional materials are also some of the best available for a church wide study. However, the small group side of the campaign had a very infomercial sort of feel to it and was quite repetitive. I would rate it 3 ½ out of % stars for a small group study but 4 stars as a church campaign.
